The first Saturday Junior coaching morning of the new season got off to a great start with blue skies and fine weather. The first session for 5 to 8 year olds was to improve tennis skills and have fun hitting some balls. The second session starting at 11.30 saw older juniors enjoying improving their tennis skills in a match situation.
Bill Dow, our Club Coach who runs the sessions described the weather as being “glorious” and that it was an excellent start to the season. These sessions run from April to October and are also open to non members. The details can be found by clicking here

As we enjoy the longest days of the year, floodlights would normally be the last topic of conversation. This year however, we are able to announce the arrival of the new LED lights. After many years service, the old sodium lights have been replaced by the latest lighting technology.
Since modern LEDs use very little electricity in comparison to the old lights it was possible to just replace the light heads without major expense. In fact, most passers-by are unlikely to notice the difference.
It is hoped that a brighter and whiter light will make tennis a bit easier to play at the beginning and end of the season.
Once again the bi-annual American Tournament was great success with Town Green club members enjoying good weather for the afternoon. Julian organised the event and at the end of the days tennis awarded the prizes to the winners!
The next social event at Town Green is the American Tournament which Julian traditionally organises at the beginning of each season. This year it will be held on Sunday 30th April and will commence at 2pm.
It’s an excellent way for new members to try their hand as players rotate partners so that all players get the chance to play with partners of different ability. It’s also a great level playing field which suits players of all ages and abilities.
There will be prizes for winners and runners-up with light refreshments available. Assuming good weather it is anticipated that the Tournament will end about 5pm. If you want to sign up please contact Julian via firstname.lastname@example.org
Our opening club night was blessed with dry though somewhat blustery weather as we got into our stride for the season. It was good to see that a number of prospective tennis players joined us for the evening and hopefully they will have been encouraged to visit us again.
Now the season starts in earnest with teams preparing for the start of fixtures in the Southport and Liverpool leagues. Last Thursday the mens team had a fine evening and got nearly two hours of practice without needing to use the floodlights.

It was interesting to see that the first floodlight on the third court had already been converted to LED. It’s not easy to see, but the old sodium light fitting has been removed and replaced. Such is the technology nowadays, the new LED lights don’t actually look like lights at all. Hopefully the weather will allow the conversion of the remaining lights before matches begin.
