U3A tennis invitation !

Town Green Tennis Club ready to play.Did you know that our U3A tennis players also play during the winter? They can usually be found on Court between 10 and 12 most Wednesdays and Fridays, unless as they say its “teeming” down.

They have a break over the Christmas and New Year period from about mid December to mid January, but apart from that will be found hitting balls down at the Winifred Lane Courts in Aughton.

They are always interested in meeting new tennis players who might want to join in and  will  look forward to seeing new faces. Interested? – then please get in touch or simply go down and introduce yourself!

If you are new to the area and still finding your way around Ormskirk and Aughton we can be found behind the Aughton Village Hall car park on Winifred Lane. If you drive through the car park, the tennis courts can be found directly in front of you. Sat Nav might not give you an accurate location!

Winter League commences

Town Green Tennis Club signpostFollowing the success of last year the Town Green Tennis Club winter league has started once again on Wednesday evenings. The competition is open to all Club members and is an excellent way for new members to play regular tennis over the winter period. If you wish to join our Club and play in our Winter League then please give us a call.

The Winter League is played most Wednesdays at 7pm on our floodlit Club courts at Winifred Lane in Aughton. There is ample off road parking and the use of the pavilion during the matches.

Are tennis players healthier than average?

Tennis racquets and ballsMany of us know that playing regular tennis is good for the health but a new study by Liverpool Hope University aims to prove it scientifically. The research project is the first of its kind and is looking for volunteer tennis players to take part in its pioneering research project.

Recreational players in the age groups 18 – 25 and 35 – 65 are sought to undertake a two-hour session to measure all aspects of fitness and general health. Dr Matthew Jackson of LHU said  ” The study will provide valuable feedback to participants on their general health.. I think it will be very interesting for those recreational players who take part”

Further information can be found in the Q and A document and the promotional poster.Dates for the study are yet to be confirmed but it is envisaged that it will commence mid to end May and Town Green Tennis Club already has one confirmed participant.

Interested? Then please contact Dr Matthew Jackson at jacksom1@hope.ac.uk or 0151 291 3758.
